Zofis Strikes Back: The Final Showdown of Friendship! is the eighty sixth episode of Zatch Bell!/Konjiki no Gash Bell!! anime and the thirty sixth episode of Season 2.

Synopsis

Zofis aims his attacks at Sherry and injures her leg. He then destroys the ground they are on and sends them into the crack in the mountain. Zofis prepares to leave, but he is interrupted by the appearance of the team; Laila and Albert, Wonrei and Li-en, Tia and Megumi Oumi, and Zatch, Kiyo, and Dr. Riddles. Zofis triggers a volcanic eruption while battling the team. The team manages to avoid the volcanic eruption while blocking Zofis' attacks. Zofis tells them they should give up because they are fatigued from the previous battle. Kiyo tells them that the feelings will give them the power they need to defeat Zofis. Kanchomé uses "Poruku" to transform into a device that launches Ponygon with Kiyo and Zatch on his back. Kiyo tells Zofis that with their friends, they can make the impossible possible, and that they will defeat Zofis. Once close enough to Zofis, Kiyo throws Zatch towards Zofis.

Full Summary

Sherry and Brago waiting for Zofis' next attack

After overcoming Zofis’ latest attempt to mislead her, Sherry regains her composure and casts Baberuga Gurabidon to protect Brago from Zofis’ Digan Teoradomu. In the process, Zofis’ arm was in range of the spell and it would be badly injured from the power of it. Furious, Zofis flies towards Sherry to attack her directly. Before Sherry could defend herself with another spell, Zofis damages her leg by using Rondo Radomu before attacking her again with several Radomu shots. When Zofis returns to Koko’s side, he prepares to use another powerful spell. Instead of aiming towards Sherry and Brago, he aims just off to the side of them on the ground they stood on. Large cracks form and suddenly the ground falls apart causing them to fall. Sherry would then use the end of her staff to grab onto a small section of the cliff to pull her and Brago up to the surface. Not before long, Zofis finds them and destroys the cliff they had grabbed onto which leads to Sherry and Brago falling down into a deep abyss. With them seemingly gone, Zofis declares victory for himself. Zofis then takes Koko with him as he flies over the rocky canyons.

Zatch vows to defeat Zofis on behalf of all those Zofis had manipulated

Suddenly, Laila and Albert appear and attempt to hit Zofis with a surprise attack. When he tries to attack her with a spell, he sees that it is suddenly blocked by Tia and Megumi who cast Ma Seshirudo. Wonrei and Li-en also join in with a surprise attack by using Garu Redoruku. Zofis evades this, but turns around to see Kanchome using Dikaporuku to intimidate him. This does not last long as Zofis would quickly notice where both Kanchome and Folgore were hiding. Ponygon and Sunbeam would also join in the attack by having Ponygon deflect Zofis’ spells while in his Gou Shudoruku form. While Zofis finds himself occupied with all the teams in front of him, Kiyo and Zatch launch a Zakeruga attack from behind him. While they have Zofis’ attention, Zatch and Kiyo tell him that they will be his opponents as they plan to fight him on behalf of all of those he had manipulated and harmed in his scheme to become the next king.

Zofis sets off the volcano

As Zofis agrees to face them all in battle, Koko casts Dioga Teoradomu and Zofis aims this spell at a nearby volcanic crater. The ground beneath everyone would begin to shake violently as the spell had triggered a volcanic eruption causing volcanic plumes of smoke and magma to spew from the crater. Zatch and his allies are then forced to run and hide behind large rocks to protect them from the magma and rocks that were now raining down onto the battlefield. Using the situation to his advantage, Zofis begins destroying the large rocks that were flung into the air using Radomu to create more fiery rocks to rain down on the area below him. As Zofis once again declares another victory for him, Zatch and Kiyo emerge from the rubble of the rocks as they are still determined to fight him as they refuse to let the sacrifices and feelings of those they cared about go to waste.

Zofis uses Gigano Radomu

The battle then begins as Zofis attacks Zatch using multiple Radomu shots but Zatch easily handles the blow of each spell with just his body. Zofis then resorts to using Gigano Radomu to attack them next. To protect Zatch, Wonrei, Laila, and Tia all put their strength into their respective shield spells to stop the attack. When Zofis sees his attack stopped thanks to all of their efforts, he then notices Kanchome, in a transformed state using Poruku, slingshot Zatch, Kiyo, and Ponygon into the air towards Zofis. Zofis would try multiple times to stop them in their pursuit but all three of them continue to prevail in enduring his attacks. They follow Zofis through the sky until Zofis reaches the ground expecting the three of them to have run out of any strength from within to attack. To his surprise, the three of them continue to follow him. As Ponygon leads them to Zofis, Kiyo grabs Zatch and throws him towards Zofis. The episode then suddenly ends as it focuses on Zofis’ reaction to this.

Manga & Anime Differences

• In the anime, Zofis attacks Sherry several times using Radomu before finally collapsing the ground that she and Brago stood on which causes them to fall down a rocky abyss. In the manga, this does not occur and their battle continues.
• Zatch, Kiyo, and the rest of their allies have no involvement during the final battle against Zofis in the manga. All appearances they make and all events that occur because of this is entirely filler.

Localization Differences

• Details such as blood from injuries are cleaned up from characters in the VIZ localization but other things such as scratches and clothing tears are usually left alone. All bleeding and blood stains seen on Brago, Sherie, and Wonrei would be cleaned up in the VIZ localization.

Trivia

• Up until this episode, Sherry was voiced by Saffron Henderson in the English dub of the series. Starting from this episode, Sherry would be voiced by Karen Strassman for the remainder of her appearance in the VIZ localization of the anime.
