Synopsis[]

Zatch, Tia, and Ponygon are approached by Elle Chivas, who asks for their help in finding a child she had been traveling with that wandered off in town. As they speak with her, the trio discover that Elle is actually a bookkeeper, and the child she is searching for is her Mamodo partner, Momon. Elle goes on to explain that she has spent her time traveling the world preaching peace, and up until now she has never been involved in any battles. Everything seems calm and friendly—until Kiyo suddenly declares that they are going to fight. Having just been the victim of one of Momon’s mischievous pranks, Kiyo is furious and refuses to let it slide, much to Zatch’s surprise.

Hana decides that Tia should watch her show

Hana decides that Tia should watch her show

Zatch and Ponygon spend the afternoon at home preparing to watch an episode of Praying Mantis Joe on television. Just as it begins, Tia barges in and switches the channel to one of her own shows, sparking an argument between the kids. The three fight over the TV until Hana steps in and decides that Zatch and Ponygon should let Tia watch her program. Meanwhile, at school, Suzy and Kiyo talk about Megumi’s busy trip overseas and how Tia has been staying with him during her absence. As they walk home, Kiyo mentions that Megumi will be returning later that day to pick Tia up, reflecting on how quickly the week passed. Suddenly, the two notice a commotion by the river. Looking closer, they see a child drowning, and without hesitation, Kiyo rushes into the water to save him.

Momon stops listening to Kiyo

Momon stops listening to Kiyo

After bringing the child to safety, Kiyo and Suzy are shocked by his strange appearance—part rabbit, part monkey. Kiyo tries to question him, but the child soon stops listening altogether. When Suzy hands Kiyo his school bag, the child reacts immediately upon spotting the spellbook inside, and Kiyo realizes he must be a Mamodo. Before he can say more, the boy yanks down Kiyo’s pants and kicks him back into the river before escaping. Elsewhere, Zatch, Tia, and Ponygon are playing in the park when they are approached by a young woman named Elle Chivas, who asks for help finding a boy she had been traveling with. She explains that he is her Mamodo partner, Momon, who wandered off. When Zatch notices the spellbook in Elle’s bag, he asks if she’s a bookkeeper, surprising her. After revealing that they are also Mamodo, Elle admits this is the first time she has met others like them.

Later at Kiyo’s house, Elle shares her story with the group. She explains that she has no desire to fight and has been traveling the world to spread peace. The kids tell her they also avoid fighting when they can, adding that Kiyo, Zatch’s bookkeeper, is a good person. Just as Elle begins to feel reassured, Kiyo storms into the room, still furious after being shoved into the river, and demands Zatch come outside to battle the Mamodo who attacked him earlier. Realizing he means Momon, Elle panics, and before she can explain, they spot Momon peering at them from outside the glass door. Elle tries to quietly signal him to leave, but he’s quickly noticed by Kiyo. Momon flees, with Kiyo and the others chasing after him.

Elle pleads for Tia not to hurt Momon

Elle pleads for Tia not to hurt Momon

As they run, Elle pleads with Kiyo to believe her that she and Momon never intended to fight and that they had never even met other Mamodo until now. Kiyo is skeptical but suddenly notices Momon sneaking up behind Tia, trying to look up her skirt. Enraged, Tia lashes out, and both she and Kiyo become even more determined to punish him. Momon continues to evade them with ease, dodging every move without effort. Watching closely, Kiyo realizes the truth: Momon can sense the presence of other Mamodo, which allows him to avoid them instinctively. Since Kiyo is human, however, Momon cannot sense him. Using this to their advantage, Kiyo devises a trap where he positions himself out of Momon’s awareness. To everyone’s surprise, the plan works, and Kiyo successfully catches him. Before Tia can unleash her fury, Elle steps in and begs them not to hurt Momon.

Megumi tries resolving

Megumi tries resolving

Elle does her best to apologize on behalf of Momon but this doesn’t go over well as Momon wasn’t truly reflecting on his actions. Before Tia could go after him again, Megumi arrives at the park just in time to help calm Tia down. Just as things finally seem to be resolved, Momon provokes Tia even further by holding up a pair of her underwear. Humiliated, Tia becomes completely engulfed in rage and her fury frightens everyone except Momon who refuses to let go of her underwear. Seeing no way that she can stop her, Megumi pulls out Tia’s spell book for the fight that’s about to occur.
