The Reversed Future. Thunder Emperor Zeon. Overture to Ruin is the one hundred and forty seventh episode of Konjiki no Gash Bell!! anime and the forty seventh episode of Season 3.

Synopsis

Kiyo, Zatch, and their allies team up to fight Riou in order to try and stop Faudo in the short amount of time they have left. During the battle however, Zeno and Dufort appear and reveal that they had been hiding in Faudo the entire time until Faudo finally awakened. Looking to control Faudo himself, Zeno takes over the battle and easily overwhelms Riou with his sheer power and skilled fighting style. Although outclassed, Riou forces himself to keep fighting as he is determined to become king no matter what.

Full Summary

Karudio freezes Gigano Fanon while Ponygon brings Zatch and Kiyo to safety

From the control room, Zarchim observes the battle that is about to take place between Riou and Zatch and Kiyo’s allies. When he sees Riya and Alishie on the monitor, Zarchim decides he will go and settle the score with them. Just as he is about to leave, he is suddenly confronted by Zeno and Dufort, who were the ones Zarchim had been sensing the entire time but constantly felt uneasy about. Dufort asks Zeno if he will finally be able to see a scenery different from what they’ve seen up until now, and Zeno assures him that he soon will. While Riou deals with Zatch and Kiyo’s allies, Zarchim is left to fight against Zeno on his own. During the battle with Riou, Kiyo demands Riou to stop Faudo, which greatly irritates him. Knowing that Zatch and Kiyo’s power alone won’t be able to stop his stronger spells, Riou uses Gigano Fanon. However, Zatch and Kiyo’s allies intervene, with Momon slowing it down using Ora Norojio before Karudio freezes the spell altogether. After this, Ponygon carries Zatch and Kiyo to safety before the spell makes impact.

Riou and his bookkeeper, Banikis

Annoyed with the group’s meddling, Riou calls out for his bookkeeper Banikis to come out of hiding and fight with him. Banikis then climbs out of Riou’s abdominal cavity, making his appearance for the first time. With Banikis able to see his opponents, he is now able to cast spells with greater accuracy and timing. Much like Riou, he is determined to eliminate the group and end the battle as quickly as possible. Almost immediately after revealing himself, Banikis casts one of Riou’s strongest spells, Fanon Riou Diou. Both Alishie and Kiyo cast their respective shield spells to defend against the attack. Kiyo reinforces Rashield with two additional Zagurzem, but both Zatch’s and Riya’s shields break, leading to most of the group getting wiped out by Riou’s attack. When the dust settles, Alishie is the only one left standing. Riou calls out to Zarchim in the control room to let him know that he is about to finish her off but receives no response. Confused, Riou soon learns the truth when Zeno and Dufort step out from the control room to inform him that Zarchim had already been sent back to the Mamodo World. When Riou looks at Zeno, his demeanor changes as he recognizes him by his fearsome title, the Thunder Emperor.

Zeno uses Zakeru

Zatch, Kiyo, and their allies are shocked to see how Zeno closely resembles Zatch, and Kiyo recalls that Zeno was the one who defeated Apollo and Rops long ago. Riou is intimidated by Zeno’s presence, knowing that Zeno inherits his powerful lightning abilities from his royal family and had endured notoriously harsh training to hone his skills. Riou questions why Zeno had suddenly come to Faudo, and Zeno replies that Zarchim had been aware of his presence even before Faudo was revived. Now that Faudo is fully revived, Zeno intends to take its power for himself by defeating Riou. With almost no time to react, Zeno attacks Riou and Banikis with a close-range Zaker, its power shown to be far greater than Zatch’s. Riou tries to counter with Gigano Fanon, but it is instantly destroyed by a single Zakerga from Zeno. Still maintaining his attack, Zeno grabs Riou and slams him to the ground, electrocuting him in the process.

Riou uses his forbidden spell, Girufadomu Barusuruku

After getting back up, Riou uses Bargis Fanon, but Zeno dodges it with ease. Riou then attempts to fight him directly using his staff as a weapon, but he is effortlessly taken down again, and Zeno destroys the staff. He taunts Riou while pinning him to the ground with just his foot. Riou frees himself with Garufanon, but is immediately kicked away, shattering parts of his armor. When Zatch, Kiyo, and their allies try to intervene, Zeno attacks them as well with his Zaker, telling them he will enjoy defeating them later before refocusing on Riou. Before Zeno can finish him, Riou orders Banikis to cast his most dangerous spell. Banikis hesitates, but Riou insists it is their only option. Banikis then casts Riou’s forbidden spell, Girufadomu Barusuruku, transforming Riou into an enormous and monstrous form.

Riou uses Fanon Riou Diou

Despite Riou now battling in this berserker state, he is still overwhelmingly defeated by Zeno, who mercilessly attacks him. Zeno finally electrocutes him with Teozaker, forcing Riou back into his original form. Even after being utterly beaten, Riou refuses to surrender, insisting that after all he endured to gather forces for Faudo, he cannot abandon his dream of becoming king. In desperation, he unleashes another Fanon Riou Diou, but it is easily countered by Zeno’s Jyauro Zakerga. The resulting explosion burns Riou’s spellbook, ending his fight once and for all. With Riou defeated, Zeno takes control of Faudo. At his command, Faudo initiates high-speed movement and begins advancing even faster toward Japan. Despite the hopeless situation, Zatch urges Kiyo not to give up, believing that together they can still defeat Zeno.
