After overcoming Zofis’ illusions, Laila declared to Zatch’s group that she would lead them to the room where the moon stone was located and help them destroy it in order to free Albert and the remaining humans being controlled through it. Before heading off, the group decided to recover under the moonlight shining down on them from the room above in preparation for the battle ahead. Feeling energized, Kanchome and Parco Folgore set off first toward the staircase in front of them. Just then, Laila realized she was forgetting something important. When she saw the two trigger a pair of hidden traps, she remembered that the real staircase was hidden behind one of the many statues around them. Laila struggled to recall which statue was the correct one, leading to more traps being set off due to her hesitation. Eventually, she figured out the correct statue and destroyed it from a safe distance, revealing the way forward.

As the group prepared to move on, Patty stopped to warn them about the danger that lay ahead and even urged them to turn back while they still could. Kiyo and Zatch thanked Patty for her concern but ultimately decided to continue with their plan. After they left, Byonko told Patty that he felt they should join them as well. Patty questioned him about betraying Zofis, but Byonko explained that he realized it was they who were in the wrong, and he would rather ally with Zatch’s group than Zofis. He ended by telling Patty he knew she felt the same way deep down.

Meanwhile, Wonrei’s group slowly made their way up a long staircase in hopes of reaching the moon stone’s room. As they climbed higher, they felt the rejuvenating effects of the moonlight shining on them. Upon reaching the next room, they were greeted by a massive three-headed statue that proclaimed itself the three beautiful sisters who guarded the ruins. It told them that to pass, they must answer who among them was the most beautiful. If they failed to give a suitable answer, they would be punished. The group struggled, each believing themselves to be the most beautiful. Ultimately, Li-en was pressured to answer on their behalf. She wanted to say herself, but hesitated out of fear of everyone’s reactions. In the end, she cast Gou Bauren to destroy the statues, which revealed the staircase to the next room.

As the group continued climbing, the light pouring from the room above suddenly went dark. Soon after, an attack spell was fired at them, and Tia tried to protect the group with Seushiru. The shield eventually broke, but they narrowly evaded the attack. They rushed into the darkened room, where the demon Demolt, guardian of the moon stone, attacked again with greater fury. To protect them, Megumi cast Ma Seushirudo. As she focused on holding the shield, cracks began to form. Tia called on Megumi to stay strong and regain her focus. Once Megumi collected herself, Ma Seushirudo grew stronger and successfully withstood Demolt’s assault. Demolt then unleashed an even stronger spell. Ma Seushirudo began to crack again, and Wonrei suddenly stepped forward to shield everyone with his body. When the barrier finally shattered, Demolt attacked once more, and everyone watched helplessly as Wonrei was brutally impaled by the spell. The episode ended as Kiyo’s group arrived just in time to witness this, shaken by Demolt’s overwhelming size and power.

Anime & Manga Differences[]

  • Scenes in the anime that focused on Wonrei’s group entering the room with the three statues and them defending themselves from Demolt’s attacks are entirely filler.
  • Scenes in the anime showing Brago and Sherry pursuing Zofis is shown earlier in the anime than the manga.

Localization Differences[]

  • Details such as blood from injuries are cleaned up from characters in the VIZ localization but other things such as scratches and clothing tears are usually left alone. All bleeding and blood stains seen on Kiyo and Wonrei would be cleaned up in the VIZ localization
  • For some reason, Lien was removed from a scene that shows Wonrei being impaled from Demolt’s attack.
  • Underwear was edited onto Folgore during scenes where his pants are seen partially down.

Trivia[]

  • The VIZ title card for this episode seen on the DVD’s has the word “Mamodo” incorrectly changed to “Momoto”. Interestingly however, a version of this title card with the correct spelling was only seen during the TV airing of the episode.
