Screams That Won’t Reach. Ted VS. Cherish. More Important Things Than King (届かない叫び テッドvsチェリッシュ 王より大切なもの, Todokanai Sakebi Teddo tai Cherisshu Ō Yori Taisetsuna mono) is the 145th episode of the Konjiki no Gash Bell!! Anime and first aired in Japan on February 19, 2006. Events that occur in this episode and the remainder of the anime’s Faudo arc are entirely anime exclusive and do not follow the events that occur in the manga.
Synopsis[]
Ted reunites with Cherish after searching so long for her across the world. While Ted is glad to see her again, Cherish feels differently as she has harbored a strong hatred towards Ted under the assumption that he had harmed her parents and disregarded the kindness she and her family had shown him in the Mamodo World. Determined to find a way to open Cherish’s closed heart, Ted takes on her attacks on his own and pleads to her to remember that he cares about her more than anything.

Zaruchim joins Riou to watch Cherish's battle
Kiyo’s group encounter Cherish and her bookkeeper Nicole in the next room inside Faudo while on their way to the control room. There, Ted finally reunites with Cherish after searching for her all this time. From the control room, Riou confirms with Cherish that she’ll be able to handle the group on her own as she is still following his orders. Zarchim joins Riou and questions why Cherish is being deployed to fight Kiyo’s group since she wasn’t an experienced fighter like the other Mamodo. Riou assures him that it won’t be a problem and reveals that, in case of anything, he had already set a trap in the room she’s in. Back in the fight, Ted tries to approach Cherish, but she suddenly attacks him with Gou Kofaru. It’s revealed that Cherish now sees Ted as her enemy and that something he did had caused her to feel this way.
Ted tells Cherish why becoming King matters to him
After getting back up, Ted pleads for Cherish to listen to him, but she refuses, still hurt by what she believes he has done. Ted tells his allies not to intervene as he wants to resolve this himself. Cherish angrily strikes him again with Gou Kofaru, knocking him down. As he lies injured, Ted blames himself for Cherish closing her heart and recalls when he first spoke to her about the battle to decide the Mamodo King. In a flashback, the two are seen together in Cherish’s home before the battle began. Cherish admitted she felt uneasy about it, while Ted expressed excitement and how important becoming king was to him. When he suggested he would become king by any means necessary, Cherish asked if that meant he would defeat her as well. Only then did Ted realize that becoming king might mean trampling over the very things he cherished most, and he hadn’t understood her pain.
Ted gets back up after being attacked by Cherish
In the present, Cherish attacks Ted once more, this time with Gare Kofaru, knocking him down again. Zatch and Kiyo’s group try to reason with her, telling her she doesn’t need to fight for Riou anymore, but she refuses to listen, insisting they are all enemies who have destroyed countless others. Seeing Ted hurt, Zatch and Kiyo nearly intervene, but Jeed stops them, asking that they allow Ted to take responsibility and reach Cherish himself. Ted approaches her again, determined to tell her what is truly most important to him, but he is struck down once more. While unconscious, Ted recalls the first time he met Cherish in the Mamodo World and how she had opened his closed heart.
Cherish and her parents look after Ted
In that flashback, Ted was an outcast who constantly got into fights, leading him to view everyone as an enemy. One day, badly wounded from a fight, he collapsed on Cherish’s doorstep. She opened the door to find him and, though frightened, tried to help. Ted rejected her kindness and insisted on being left alone, until Cherish slapped him for his stubbornness. Eventually, he accepted her help and was welcomed by her and her family. Remembering these moments, Ted also recalls a day when an explosion destroyed Cherish’s home. Cherish rushed back to find Ted with her injured parents and immediately assumed he was the one responsible. In truth, Ted had only taken minor injuries from the blast and was too late to stop the real attacker, who fled. Yet in Cherish’s eyes, Ted was the one to blame.
Faudo's Heart Guardian captures Nicole
Back in the present, Ted tries once more to convince Cherish that he wasn’t the one who attacked her family. She refuses to believe him, but Ted finally tells her that she has always been the most important thing to him, something she should already know. Stunned by his words, Cherish orders Nicole to cast their strongest spell. Nicole unleashes Dioga Kofarudon, but Cherish intentionally aims it just off to the side of Ted. Overcome with emotion, Cherish falls to her knees, remembering Ted’s promise long ago that he would protect her in the battle. Ted embraces her, and at last, Cherish accepts that he truly cared for her. Watching from the control room, Riou, disappointed with this outcome, activates the trap he had prepared. The room violently shakes as Faudo’s Heart Guardian appears and captures Nicole.
Cherish speaks with Ted before she disappears
Nicole desperately struggles, but drops Cherish’s spellbook in the process. The Heart Guardian sets it ablaze, causing Cherish to begin disappearing. With little time left, she apologizes to Ted for not believing in him and expresses her gratitude for his devotion, saying she was glad she could see him one last time. She thanks him for everything he did to find her and believe in her before fading away in his arms. Overcome with grief and fury, Ted attacks Faudo’s Heart Guardian alone. His emotions trigger the appearance of a new spell in his book, which begins to glow brightly. Jeed casts the spell, Makushimamu Naguru, unleashing Ted’s greatest power yet. With a single, devastating punch, Ted destroys Faudo’s Heart Guardian instantly. Afterward, Ted collapses, exhausted, as the group rushes to his side. They see him resting peacefully, dreaming of a happy memory of Cherish.
