| Overview |
Robnos (ロブノス, Robnos) and Ruku (リュック, Ryukku) are a mamodo team who fought against Zatch and Kiyo early on. In the manga, they placed no higher than 71st out of all mamodo.
Appearance[]
Robnos is a mamodo child that resembles a cyborg or android. He has wide black almond-shaped eyes, black lips, and the characteristic lines on his cheeks. His head is covered in a wide helmet, and the right half of his face is covered by a metal plate. Oblong robotic armor guard his arms. Robnos wears a white tunic with ten buttons, held by a dark grey belt. On his feet are matching boots.
When the two Robnoses use Rei Buruk to fuse, the complete mamodo is considerably larger than his divided form. His helmet now covers the entire top half of his face, and he has a third eye in the middle of his forehead. He trades his clothing for armor that covers his torso, as well as his legs and forearms.
Ruku is an older man wrapped in a pale pink parka with a fluffy hood. He wears matching brown gloves and boots. He has a curly moustache and widow's peak, as well as noticeable wrinkles on his face.
Personality[]
Robnos is portrayed as a bully who delights in teasing and belittling weaker mamodo, especially Zatch. He takes amusement in the pain of others, openly laughing when Kiyo is injured by his spell Biraitsu, and frequently taunting Zatch with petty jabs. While confident—often declaring himself “invulnerable”—his arrogance stems more from bluster than true malice. Despite this antagonistic nature, Robnos is not depicted as a deeply cruel or sadistic mamodo. Instead, his behavior is closer to that of an “annoying guy,” more irritating than terrifying. Beneath his bullying, he shows a surprising passion for the arts: he genuinely loves singing and possesses talent as a sculptor, suggesting a creative side to his personality that contrasts with his mocking demeanor.
Not much is known about Ruku, but his behavior suggests that he shares his mamodo partner Robnos’s tendency toward bullying. He openly mocked Zatch and Kiyo, remarking, “this is what bullying weaklings is all about,” and laughed alongside Robnos at their suffering. While he tries to present himself as tough, his bravado collapses quickly; after Robnos’s defeat, he broke down in tears, terrified of Kiyo’s anger, revealing a cowardly streak beneath his posturing. Although his dialogue is limited, Ruku’s expressions and reactions highlight his mean-spirited side. He is seen grinning while Robnos insults Zatch and laughing loudly when Biraitsu strikes Kiyo’s leg, reinforcing that he enjoys the misfortune of others. However, with so little shown, his personality remains less defined than that of other human partners, leaving him characterized mostly as a petty and cowardly bully.
Biography[]
Background[]
At some point in the earlier days of the battle, they crossed paths with Rops and Apollo, and challenged him by firing at him with Biraitsu.[2] Apollo's psychic abilities left them outmatched, and the battle ended with him nonchalantly pushing both of them into water without burning their book.[3] In the anime, during a flashback Tia has, she is seen hiding from Robnos in an industrial area, avoiding him because she had not yet met her bookkeeper.
Part I[]
Robnos and Ruku cooked up a scheme to lure Zatch and Kiyo to battle them in a frozen storage compartment. They tricked them by making them think they kidnapped Suzy (due to the fact she was sick and hadn't shown up to school, but Zatch and Kiyo didn't know that Suzy was at her home). At first, Zatch and Kiyo have problems fighting Robnos because he could easily evade Zatch's Zaker. When Zatch does hit Robnos and he falls near some boxes, Kiyo notices he got up without any wounds or damage to his clothing. Robnos casts his first spell, Biraitsu, using the walls to make the laser ricochet around the room. Kiyo calculates a position where no lasers could hit he and Zatch, but the lasers begin striking Zatch no matter where he is. Kiyo destroys everything inside the freezer and hears footsteps on what remains of it. He realizes they were up against not only one Robnos, but two. The two switching places explains why Robnos survived unscathed by Zaker. He tells Ruku that he's figured out their trick, and uses Jikerdor to immobilize the clone and attach him to the metal door at the entrance of the freezer. Robnos's partner casts Rei Buruk, and the two clones fuse. The fused Robnos is larger and more powerful, and Zaker no longer damages him. Zatch and Kiyo manage to win the fight when Kiyo lodged a metal rod in Robnos's helmet, which Zatch aimed Zaker at. The overload of energy into the damaged part led Robnos's helmet to explode, causing enough damage to burn his spellbook.
Frightened, Ruku admits that they never kidnapped Suzy and merely created a statue of her and added a letter to lure Zatch and Kiyo. Before Robnos could completely vanish, he informs Kiyo that a while ago he saw a mamodo in England that looked exactly like Zatch, which leads Kiyo and Zatch to travel to England to try and uncover the mysteries of Zatch's past.
Robnos was later seen supporting Zatch along with the other mamodos to defeat Clear Note and was finally seen in a photo along with all the mamodo children who were sending letters to their former partners.
