| Overview |
Hogan (ホウガン, Hougan) and Hulk (ハルク, Haruku)[2], also known as Million Suit (ミリオン・スーツ, Mirion Sūtsu)[3], are a minor team seen for one panel in the manga, which shows their defeat at the hands of Arth. The entire fight is seen in the anime, but the two are still beaten very easily. The anime reveals their abilities to be based around flaming axes, and that they were helping Riou.
Appearance[]
In the anime, Hogan is a towering, muscular mamodo with a bodybuilder-like physique. His skin is gray, and he has massive, defined arms and legs that emphasize his strength. His face is intimidating, with sharp, glaring yellow eyes and a wide mouth. A green vertical stripe runs down the center of his head, contrasting with the rest of his dark features. He wears a white cape-like garment that drapes over his shoulders, forming a large collar around his neck. Across his chest is a black “X”-shaped pattern, while his lower body is covered with green shorts and a brown belt. Yellow wristbands and leg bands highlight his limbs, further giving him the appearance of a wrestler or gladiator.
Hulk, Hogan’s human partner, has a leaner build with spiky, bright reddish-pink hair that stands out vividly. He wears a casual yet flashy outfit: a purple jacket over a black shirt, left partly open to reveal a white undershirt beneath. His pants are light gray color, giving contrast to his upper half.
Personality[]
Hogan is arrogant, boastful, and overconfident, frequently overestimating both his own strength and that of his partner. He relies heavily on intimidation and grandiose declarations, often proclaiming his superiority even when clearly outmatched. Despite his bravado, Hogan is easily shaken when faced with genuine resistance; moments of panic, exhaustion, and desperation emerge once battles turn against him. His fixation on his flaming axe and spell power suggests a narrow, one-dimensional combat mindset, and his refusal to acknowledge stronger opponents ultimately contributes to his defeat.
Hulk is aggressive, hot-tempered, and domineering, serving as the more forceful presence between the two. He is quick to anger when Hogan is challenged and often resorts to overwhelming power rather than strategy. While he outwardly treats Hogan as a subordinate, issuing commands and ordering retreats, his actions indicate a degree of concern for Hogan’s survival, particularly when his book is threatened. Hulk lacks composure under pressure, and when defeat becomes inevitable, he abandons the fight and flees, revealing a survival-driven mindset beneath his bluster.
Biography[]
Background[]
Very little is known about Hogan and Hulk’s background; however, they are portrayed as having endured the battle for a considerable length of time.
Part I[]
Hogan and Hulk battle Arth and Ellie in a forest. In the anime, Hogan initially attempts to intimidate Arth, claiming that continued resistance is futile and declaring his refusal to return to the Mamodo World. Arth and Ellie respond by stating they will never submit to Riou, which Hogan dismisses mockingly. Hogan then uses Emuru Akusu on Arth but is quickly overpowered. Hulk orders Hogan to get out of the way and, angered by the setback, casts Gigano Emuru Akusu. Ellie counters with Jan Ji Sorudo, which overwhelms the attack and ignites Hogan’s book. As Hogan begins to disappear, Hulk witnesses the burning book and subsequently flees the scene in distress.
Spells[]
Trivia[]
- The anime design for Hogan is different from his design in the manga.
- In the anime, Hogan used a Gigano-class spell to help break Faudo’s seal, rather than a Dioga-class spell like the rest of the Faudo Cult. As a result, Hogan is portrayed as the weakest member of the Faudo cult and the only one without a Dioga-class spell.
- The name “Million Suit” has only appeared on Hogan’s sole CCG card, while the name “Hulk” is known exclusively from an internal model sheet for him. It is likely that Toei Animation intended the name gag as an internal reference and later abandoned it, possibly due to legal considerations.
