Goren of the Stone and Maurice

Goren of the Stone (石のゴーレン, Ishi no Goren) and Maurice (モーリス, Mōrisu) are an Ancient Mamodo team from 1000 year ago who held the power of encasing other mamodo into stone instead of sending them back to the Mamodo World.

Appearance[]

Goren's physical appearance is that of a mix of multiple creatures. Most of his body is similar to a centaur (which is a half-man/half-horse creature) while Goren's head is similar to Medusa's as his hair is made out of snakes and that his spells involve petrification. He also had a cobra-headed tail.

Maurice has black hair and wears a black robe, resembling a magician or sorcerer.

Personality[]

Goren is known to be a manipulator, as he used fear to stop others such as Pamoon from attacking. Goren was considered to be the most powerful threat in the previous battle to determine King of Mamodo World.

Maurice has a sly penchant for devising schemes in order to deceive his good-natured adversaries.[1] He appealed to Pamoon's emotions by pretending that his daughter had been taken hostage and he had been forced to fight, which helped create an opening to attack Pamoon.

Biography[]

Background[]

In the battle to decide the King of the Mamodo World a thousand years prior, Goren achieved the highest number of victories of any participant. Using his spell Dioga Gorugojio, he sealed approximately half of the competing mamodo into stone tablets.

During their battle with Pamoon, a girl was presented as a hostage, crying out in anguish that she was Maurice’s daughter and that she had been taken hostage by Goren and forced to fight. This claim created the impression that she was a tragic figure who had been unwillingly dragged into the conflict, successfully deceiving Pamoon and his partner. However, the girl did not actually exist; she was a transformation of the snake on Goren’s head. The emotional plea, along with their words and actions, was entirely an act intended to mislead the Pamoon and Shelby. As a result, he sealed Pamoon in stone and won.

Despite this overwhelming success, Goren ultimately failed to become king. He was defeated by Dauwan Bell and his partner Willy, alongside three other mamodo teams, bringing his campaign to an end.[2]

Trivia[]

  • Goren's spells and abilities may be a reference to the Gorgon Medusa in Greek Mythology as they both have snake hair and is able to turn people into stone.
  • Goren makes a cameo in a flashback as one of Beliel's revived warriors who were sent to kill Brago.[3]
  • Goren’s starting location from the previous battle was possibly France, due to Maurice’s name being a common French name.
