| Overview |
Fango (ファンゴ, Fango) and Adler (アドラー, Adorā) are a mamodo team that appear during the Faudo Arc. Fango's spells have the Fire attribute.
Appearance[]
Fango is a fiery, energetic mamodo with bright orange spiky hair that flares upward like flames. His eyes are sharp and fierce. He wears a sleeveless orange-and-yellow outfit with large circular ornaments on his chest, wrists, and belt, all styled in red and gold to complement his fire-like motif. He also dawns oversized gauntlets, making him look both powerful and hot-blooded.
Adler, Fango's bookkeeper, is a tall, slender young man with curly blond hair, blue eyes, and round glasses that give him an air of refinement. His attire emphasizes his aristocratic presence: he wears a white blouse with frilled detailing and a cravat at the neck, paired with high-waisted dark trousers. Over this, he is often depicted with a yellow scarf, further complementing his noble and distinguished appearance.
Personality[]
Fango uses the first-person pronoun ore and is shown to be calm, straightforward, and strong-willed. Though his true nature is only revealed briefly in a flashback (Chapter 228), he is portrayed as one of the more reasonable mamodo in Riou’s camp. He openly admits to Wonrei that his goal in reviving Faudo was to steal its power and win the battle for king, a plan he framed as fair since almost all mamodo shared the same ambition. This forthrightness, along with his cooperative behavior (such as working smoothly with Jedun in the anime), suggests he was not inherently malicious. Even Li-en later reflects that Fango “wasn’t such a bad guy” before the corrupting influence of the Godufa Contract, noting he was not the type to betray allies. While some interpret his speech as arrogant, it is better described as dignified and opinionated. Overall, Fango is remembered as a sensible, pragmatic thinker among the Faudo warriors—physically capable and mentally balanced enough to endure until the Faudo Arc.
In the manga, Adler has almost no dialogue outside of casting spells and does not react strongly even after Fango’s personality changes, leaving his true nature ambiguous. By contrast, in Episode 141 of the anime he is shown provoking Ponygon and Karudio, mocking their inability to cooperate due to past grudges. With lines such as “These guys are good. They’re such good friends,” and “You can control cold air, so why are you getting so excited?” he is portrayed as sarcastic and antagonistic, suggesting a personality that can hardly be described as good.
Biography[]
Background[]
The pair first appeared as a team petitioned by Dr. Riddles to join the fight against Zofis, but they refused.
Part I[]
At first, he was an ambitious mamodo with noble ideals during the battle for king, but Faudo's power corrupted his mind into fighting for Zeno and Faudo instead. They reappear to assist in the release of Faudo, in which they use their fire spells focused through floating discs to break Faudo's seal. Fango's role changes from the manga and the anime:
Anime[]
Fango and Adler are teamed up with Jedun and Eskaruro Run and they fight Ponygon and Karudio. When Sauza questions Adler about Faudo destroying the world, Adler answers that the world is worthless with nothing to protect. His cold answer irritates Sauza. Fango was able to overpower them by working in combination with Jedun, something Ponygon and Karudio couldn't do. When Arth's team try to interfere, Fango tells Riou to turn on Faudo's support system which encases the four Mamodos and their respective partners in a glass tube forcing them to battle. He was able to keep them at a disadvantage until Ponygon and Karudio are able to incapacitate Jedun. Fango casts Alsem Gadyudon to try to end the battle but they are able to counter his spell and Adler is caught by Ponygon and Sunbeam, burning their book.
Fango under the Godufa contract
Manga[]
Fango was quick to switch his allegiance to Zeno once control of Faudo was usurped, earning him a Godufa transformation and a station on the first neck level of Faudo. Fango and Adler appear, along with Zaruchim and Raushin, to fight Riya and Ponygon. Throughout the fight, he keeps arguing with Zaruchim and even hurts him with his spells, wishing to purposely irritate him as much as he can. His personality, as noticed by Li-en, is different, as he was previously a person with ambition and not a person who would attack his partners; this came as a result of taking the Godufa transformation. While fighting he is cornered and decides to use Alsem Gadyudon but Ponygon is able to counter it while Riya uses Shao Neodoruku to defeat Fango and burn his book. Fango endures a final humiliation at the hands of Zaruchim, who seizes his disappearing body and uses it as a shield to protect himself from Riya's spell to properly punish Fango for his own unfaithfulness. This defeat placed Fango 24th out of the 100 mamodo in the tournament.
