| Overview |
Elzador (エルザドル, Eruzadoru) and Avira Savira (アビーラ・サビーラ, Abīra Sabīra) are a minor team that fought in the battle to decide the King of the Mamodo World. Elizador is a prodigy of the Dragon Clan alongside his older brother Ashuron. Elzador's spells have the Strengthening attribute.
Appearance[]
Elzador has the appearance of a massive dragon covered in scales, with a body spanning several meters—far larger than that of an average monster. In terms of coloration, his body has been depicted differently across media. In the card game, Elzador was shown as red, the same as Ashuron. However, in the group color illustration from the Complete Edition, his design is shown as a blue-green shade (the same teal as his spellbook), and fan art often portrays him in this blue-green variation as well. A notable difference between Elzador and Ashuron is that Elzador lacks wings. Instead, his back is lined with several spike-like structures. Following his battle with Bari, Elzador is shown with lasting physical damage: the horn on his left shoulder, which was broken during their fight.
Avira Savira, Elzador’s book owner, consistently appears wearing work clothes and a brimmed hat. For much of the series, his face is obscured, but it is finally revealed in the group illustration on the cover of the complete edition Volume 16. He has black hair visible beneath his hat and wears a yellow (ochre-toned) hat and jacket.
Personality[]
Elzador appears only briefly in flashbacks and supplementary material, leaving many aspects of his personality officially undefined. Nevertheless, his limited dialogue and the impressions he leaves on other characters strongly suggest a man of exceptional character. Bari describes sensing both overwhelming fear and profound “nobility” in Elzador’s eyes, indicating a warrior who possesses not only immense power but also dignity and composure. Elzador is proud, self-assured, and fully aware of his own strength, yet he does not display arrogance or cruelty. Despite his fearsome presence, Elzador’s core disposition is kind and honorable. He openly acknowledges the strength of others, even in defeat, and demonstrates emotional maturity by praising Bari after losing to him. In the Gash Café segment of the complete edition, he openly refers to Ashuron and Bari as his “best friends,” further emphasizing his capacity for respect, loyalty, and emotional depth.
Avira’s personality is largely unknown due to his extremely limited dialogue. What little is shown suggests that he trusted Elzador’s strength deeply and was genuinely shocked by Elzador’s defeat. His quiet presence and lack of commentary imply a reserved and supportive demeanor rather than an outspoken one.
Biography[]
Background[]
Dr. Riddles asks Elzador for help
Elzador is recognized as one of the “Dragon Tribe Prodigies,” a small group of exceptionally powerful dragon-type mamodo whose combat abilities were said to surpass even those of most adult demons. Alongside fellow prodigy Ashuron, Elzador was regarded as one of the strongest participants in the battle to decide the king, with strength acknowledged even among elite and veteran mamodo.
Before being formally introduced, Elzador appears as a towering silhouette during a flashback involving Dr. Riddles. Dr. Riddles seeks assistance in confronting the Ancient Mamodo, indicating that Elzador was considered a viable force. Standing calmly before the much smaller Dr. Riddles, Elzador speaks with quiet confidence, stating that if they are attacked, he will simply defeat the enemy, and declines his invitation to join him.
Part I[]
Faudo Arc[]
Elzador is defeated
Later, in the battle to determine to the King, he meets a mamodo named Bari and engaged in battle with him. At the time, Bari had already demonstrated overwhelming dominance against Zatch and Kiyo, yet Elzador defeats him with near-total superiority. The battle is intensely one-sided, with Elzador inflicting severe physical and psychological damage on Bari, including wounds that leave permanent scars. His absolute strength and intimidating presence push Bari to the brink of losing his will to fight. Although Bari ultimately emerges victorious, the encounter becomes a pivotal moment in his growth. Just before returning to the Mamodo World, Elzador openly acknowledges and praises Bari’s strength, an act that leaves a lasting impression and contributes significantly to Bari’s development as a warrior. Throughout these events, Avira Savira remains largely in the background.
Clear Arc[]
Along with the other mamodo who participated in the battle to decide the king, Elzador appears during the final confrontation against Clear Note, lending his strength in support of Zatch Bell. Following the battle, Elzador appears in the group photograph of all participating mamodo that Zatch sends to Kiyo.
Elzador makes his first substantial appearance outside of flashbacks in the Gash Café segment included in the Complete Edition Volume 12. In this scene, he is shown in the Mamodo World drinking dwarf barley beer alongside Ashuron, marking his first on-panel interaction in a relaxed, non-combat setting. During the gathering, Elzador sits next to Bari, who is visibly dissatisfied at being seated beside the mamodo who once defeated him. Elzador initially ignores Bari, instead complaining while drinking, but as the alcohol takes effect, the conversation gradually becomes more animated. Elzador recounts an incident from his childhood in which he engaged in a massive fight with Ashuron that nearly killed them both, stating that he was ten years old at the time, which occurred six years prior.
Bari attempts to provoke Elzador by suggesting that, since Elzador lost that fight, he must hate Ashuron in the same way Bari does. Elzador angrily rejects this idea, revealing that he recognized Ashuron—whom even his own parents feared—as his best friend. He then extends this recognition to Bari as well, acknowledging him in the same way. Shortly afterward, Elzador passes out drunk, falling into a deep sleep with a faintly contented smile on his face. Avira Savira also appears in the Gash Café segment, though his role is limited. He is shown transporting Elzador’s enormous food orders, including a giant steak and a giant meat pie, using a trailer-like vehicle.
