Cool-Headed Zaruchim. The Truth of the Curse. Stand Up! Alishie is the one hundred and thirty third episode of Zatch Bell!/Konjiki no Gash Bell!! anime and the thirty third episode of Season 3.

Synopsis

As Kiyo’s group enters Faudo’s small intestine, a massive mechanical drill trap activates behind them, forcing everyone to sprint through the narrow corridor in search of escape. When Elle trips and Momon freezes in fear, Sunbeam casts Umagon’s second spell just in time to rescue them. The danger escalates when tentacles emerge from the walls and ceiling, melting anything they touch, leaving the group dodging wildly while still pursued by the drill. Meanwhile, Wonrei travels with Zaruchim, who explains that even a Dioga-class spell could only stall the drill briefly, ensuring only some might survive. Back in the chase, Kiyo realizes that the only way out is through hidden holes that open near the drill. Alishie prepares to unleash his strongest spell to give them the chance to escape but suddenly freezes, silent and motionless as the drill closes in. Momon’s Ora Norojio saves the group at the last second, dropping them into liquid containers in the next chamber where Zaruchim and Wonrei are waiting. Kiyo angrily confronts Alishie, but Zaruchim reveals the truth: Alishie is cursed by Riou, barely able to remain conscious, and had only fought to gain enough power to save himself. Zaruchim restrains the group with Orushido Sharon and orders Wonrei to tie them up, which he reluctantly does, admitting it’s for Li-en’s sake. Observing carefully, Kiyo notices Zaruchim’s spell requires full concentration, but before they can act, Zaruchim silences them and orders Kiyo and Zatch bound next. Just when hope seems lost, Zatch insists Alishie won’t betray them—and Alishie, summoning his last strength, proves him right by striking Zaruchim to break the restraints. Though shocked by his defiance of Riou’s curse, Zaruchim faces Alishie again as Alishie vows to protect the group he sees as his final hope.

Full Summary

Ponygon and Sunbeam rescue Elle and Momon

A large trap in the form of a mechanical drill is set off behind Kiyo’s group just as they entered Faudo’s small intestine. With seemingly no way of avoiding it, the group runs down the narrow hallway in hopes of finding a way out. While running, Elle trips and Momon runs back to try and help her up but both become paralyzed with fear as the drill quickly approaches them. Just in time however, Sunbeam casts Ponygon’s second spell, allowing him to rescue the two of them while riding on Ponygon. With the pair saved, the group continues running but Sunbeam reminds Kiyo to try and find an escape somehow as Ponygon is not able to carry everyone in the group. While looking around, the group end up stepping on soft spots on the ground that cause numerous tentacles from the walls and ceiling to appear. When the tentacles try and swipe at the group, they discover that anything that touches gets melted. With this new threat posed to them, the group frantically dodge and weave through the frenzy of tentacles all while continuing to stay ahead of the drill that’s following them close behind.

Wonrei speaks with Zaruchim

Meanwhile, Wonrei accompanies Zaruchim as they’re on their way to another area of Faudo where they would confront any intruders that survive getting through the small intestine. While walking, Wonrei asks Zaruchim to explain what he meant when he mentioned earlier how the drill could be stopped by the use of a Dioga-class spell. Zaruchim tells him that a spell of that power would only be able to stop the drill momentarily but not destroy it. He then suggests that doing this and escaping the moment it is stopped would allow those escaping it to survive but believes that only some in the group would be able to avoid the trap. At the same time from Kiyo’s group’s perspective, Momon accidentally drops several pairs of Tia’s underwear and Kiyo notices that while a few were melted by the tentacles, one of them was not destroyed when it fell down an open hole. This then leads Kiyo to realize that the group’s only way of escaping is to jump down these holes but the holes themselves only open around the area nearby the drill. As they approach an uphill, Alishie offers to cast his strongest spell towards the drill in order to give everyone the opportunity to escape into the open holes underneath it. Seeing that this is their only option, everyone agrees and waits for Alishie’s move. Alishie only reads halfway through a spell before suddenly stopping, standing completely still and silent as the drill continues moving toward them.

Kiyo confronts Alishie

Zaruchim and Wonrei enter another room in Faudo that contains several large liquid containers where any surviving intruders from the small intestine would fall into. As the pair watch the ceiling, they see that Kiyo, Zatch, Alishie, and Riya were the first ones to drop in and everyone else soon followed. After breaking through the container, Kiyo grabs Alishie and demands answers from him as to why he did nothing to stop the drill. He then goes on to point out that had it not been for Momon’s Ora Norojio spell, they would have all been killed. As Kiyo continues to yell at Alishie for answers, Zaruchim steps in and claims that Alishie was their enemy from the beginning as he is one of the humans that Riou had placed a curse upon. Zaruchim then goes on to explain that the curse’s power steals physical strength, leaving Alishie only able to just barely maintain consciousness. Zaruchim also suggests that because of this, Alishie was only after gaining power to release Faudo’s seal in order to save his own life and only sided with the group as one of them had a Dioga-class spell. Before the group could react to this, Zaruchim uses his spell, Orushido Sharon, to restrain all of them in place. Wonrei is then instructed to tie up each of them and bring them to their side and Wonrei reluctantly does so.

Kiyo thinks of an escape plan

As Wonrei starts with tying up Megumi and Tia, they hear from him that he’s only doing this for Li-en’s sake as she has become extremely weak and is willing to do anything to free her from the curse and save her life. While restrained and watching Wonrei tie up other members of the group, Kiyo stays focused on his surroundings in hopes of finding a way out of this situation. When looking at Zaruchim, he figures out that Zaruchim’s restraining spell is only active when his eyes and his spell book are glowing and that he cannot attack or use any other spells during this time. With this in mind, Kiyo, Sunbeam, Zatch, and Ponygon ready themselves to counterattack. Before they have a chance to read a spell however, Zaruchim uses his spell to cover their mouths and reminds them that meeting Alishie was when they had all fallen into their trap. It is at that point that Zaruchim orders Wonrei to tie up Kiyo and Zatch next as he suspects they have the power needed to break Faudo’s seal.

Alishie forces himself to cast a spell

As things appear grim, Zatch urges Kiyo to have faith in Alishie as he believes Alishie has a good heart and strong convictions and would never betray them to begin with. At that moment, Alishie uses what little strength he has left to stand up and cast an attack spell towards Zaruchim, freeing everyone from his restraining spell. When Zaruchim returns to his feet, he expresses his shock at Alishie being able to attack him as Alishie being under Riou’s curse should not allow this to be possible. Now that he’s conscious again, Alishie apologizes to Kiyo for not casting a spell earlier but assures him that he’ll do everything he can to open a means of escape for everyone still with him. He then finally tells the group that they’re the last hope he had finally found and will not let them be handed over to Zaruchim and Riou by any means.
