Cherish (チェリッシュ, Cherisshu) and Nicole (ニコル, Nikoru) are a team caught within the cult of Riou and Faudo tower of the Faudo Arc. They specialize in Crystal Magic and placed 14th out of the 100 Mamodo who fought in the battle.

Appearance[]

Cherish is a graceful and fashionably styled Mamodo with a striking appearance. She has long, voluminous golden hair that cascades down her back in flowing curls. Her eyes are sharp and elegant, conveying both confidence and depth. She wears a stylish red long-sleeve top paired with a layered pink skirt and a matching pink beret. Her white boots and clean color palette give her the look of a model or idol.

Nicole, her human partner, dresses in a distinct green outfit resembling desert or nomadic attire. Her long orange hair is mostly covered by a lime green cap and matching scarf, while her outfit consists of a two-tone green tunic and pants with neatly folded cuffs. Her green shoes and spellbook complete the coordinated look. She wears this to hide that she is female, posing as a male for safety.

Personality[]

Cherish is elegant, compassionate, and emotionally complex. She shows a level of maturity not always seen among Mamodo, and her actions are often guided by empathy rather than raw ambition. Despite participating in the Mamodo battle, she has a strong aversion to senseless violence and wishes to protect others. Her spells—centered around ice and defense—reflect her desire to shield rather than destroy. Cherish is also introspective and deeply affected by the realities of the battle, often torn between doing what’s necessary and what feels morally right.

Nicole dresses in a distinct green outfit resembling desert or nomadic attire. She wears a lime-green cap and matching scarf that partially cover her long hair—blonde in the manga and brown in the anime. Her outfit consists of a two-tone green tunic and pants with neatly folded cuffs, complemented by green shoes and her spellbook, creating a coordinated and practical look. Her medieval-style features and distinctive hat resemble those of Cherish, further linking the pair visually. Nicole travels in disguise, presenting herself as a man. She explains this choice by saying, “two women traveling together is dangerous.” In the manga, her true gender is revealed in Chapter 236. In the anime, however, this revelation does not occur until the very end, likely due to either a deliberate anime-only decision (as with Jedun) or because the original manga detail was not shared with the anime staff during production.

Biography[]

Background[]

Cherish was a brave, older Mamodo girl who leads and protects a group of orphan Mamodo children from the many dangers and bullies within the Mamodo world. Cherish wears a pale pink hat, red shirt, a pale pink miniskirt, and boots. Nicole is a teenage girl who works as a park ranger on a safari. She typically is seen wearing green clothing, a yellow scarf and a hat when disguised as a boy. Underneath her sweatshirt is a white tank top. One of the children whom Cherish cared for, Ted, was particularly inspired by Cherish's actions and strived to be as brave as she was in the face of danger. When the duo both were sent to the human world, Ted went in search of her while Cherish. It is mentioned by others that she is not the fighting type and is not used to battle.

Part I[]

Needing assistance to the awakening of Faudo, Riou places his curse upon Nicole, forcing Cherish to fight for him at the risk of her partner's life. After an initial fight with Tia and Ponygon, Cherish used her Dioga Kofardon spell to assist in awakening the massive Mamodo. Yet while she thought she would be free after Riou's fall, Zeno's takeover of Faudo forced her to continue serving the enemy. As part of a team with Gyaron on the second floor towards Faudo's brain, Zeno indirectly controlled her through his servant Gyaron, shocking her with electricity whenever she rebelled. As Ted arrived to save her, Cherish finally stood up against Gyaron and Zeno while watching the boy Mamodo's sacrifice. While Ted's book burns, he is concerned about Cherish and Nicole being together all the time. Nicole reveals that she is actually a girl disguising herself as a boy because it was dangerous for 2 girls to travel alone.

Eventually, she assisted Zatch' team against Zeno, sacrificing her own book to attack him while using her sniper spell Gurado Ma Kofaru to release the mamodo that Zeno had been holding captive. Before she fades away, she thanks Nicole for being such a good partner and tells Kanchome, Tia and Ponygon that the rest is up to them.

Anime: Choosing to stay on Riou's side even after waking Faudo, Cherish fights Ted, believing herself to be avenging her parents, whom she was convinced that Ted had killed. Ted does not even attempt to avoid her attacks and tells her that he found her parents already dead when he entered the house, thus, convincing Cherish of his innocence. Cherish does not want to fight Ted anymore but Riou, seeing this, sends Heart Guardian to burn her book. She apologises to Ted for not believing him as she fades away.

Clear Note Arc[]

Nicole is shown praying hard for Zatch's victory against Clear Note. She later appears in the final battle with Clear and Shin Gurādo Ganzu Kofaru to protect Zatch from his attacks while he reaches Clear's forehead. After Zatch wins the battle and becomes Mamodo King, she is seen helping to rebuild the Mamodo orphanage with Rein and Ted. Nicole returns to work at the safari.

Part II[]

Following Zatch’s reign as King, Cherish lived in the Mamodo World until the theft of spells robbed her of her powers. Without her jewel magic, she was left defenseless during the onslaught of Beliel’s forces. Zelie recalls her body lying alongside Rein and Ted’s, signaling her tragic death.
