Byonko (ビョンコ, Byonko) and Alvin (アルヴィン, Aruvin) are a supporting human-mamodo team during the Ancient Mamodo Arc. Byonko's spells have an attribute of Slime Magic.
Appearance[]
Byonko is a frog mamodo with bright green skin, a wide pink tongue that curls out of his mouth, and bulging yellow-orange cheeks. He has leafy protrusions on his back resembling wings and wears red-and-orange striped pants held up with suspenders. Around his neck hangs a circular clock medallion.
Alvin is an older man with a sturdy build, a bald head with bushy white eyebrows, and a large white beard and mustache. He wears a cream-colored rolled-up shirt tucked into brown pants held up by bright red suspenders. He is usually seen with his full dentures, which he occasionally removes.
Personality[]
Byonko is highly expressive, playful, and often portrayed as a “comical villain.” He gets upset very easily and worries constantly, especially about making friends. In battle, rather than focusing on the enemy, he is shown praising himself for his own skills and cleverness, reinforcing his humorous and exaggerated nature. Despite his quirks, Byonko is pure-hearted at his core. This innocence sometimes leads him to side with manipulative figures like Zofis, but his choices stem more from fear and insecurity than malice. Ultimately, he demonstrates the ability to reflect on his actions, overcome his fears, and stand up to fight when it matters most. In this way, Byonko embodies both lighthearted comic relief and genuine courage, showing that even the most timid mamodo can grow into a figure of bravery and goodness.
Alvin is a playful and affectionate man with the easygoing charm of a “country grandpa.” He is humorous, sometimes stubborn, and not above pretending to be helpless—such as claiming he could not cast spells because of his missing dentures. Despite these quirks, he has a warm heart and shows genuine care for Byonko, often balancing discipline with indulgence. Though reluctant to join the battle at first, Alvin is moved by Byonko’s innocence and creativity, which inspires him to fight alongside him. He is capable of being disappointed—such as when Byonko allied with Zofis—but ultimately forgives and supports him once he sees his partner’s courage. Alvin’s personality combines mischief, affection, and sincerity, making him both comic relief and a figure of reliability. His relationship with Byonko highlights his loving nature.

Background[]
Alvin was a grumpy, old man from Madagascar who was trying to live out the rest of his life in peace by himself at his cottage located somewhere in a valley when he first encountered the mamodo Byonko. Byonko asked him to become his partner in the battle for king, but Alvin initially refused, which upset the frog-like mamodo. Amused by the four-leaf clover growing on Byonko’s head, Alvin jokingly called it a “salad” and plucked one of the leaves, turning it into a permanent three-leaf clover. This made Byonko cry even more, and out of sympathy, Alvin agreed to team up with him, deciding to help Byonko become “cool.”
Part I[]
At some point during the battle, Alvin and Byonko were approached by Zofis. Mistaking him for a genuine ally, Byonko befriended Zofis and, along with Penny, became his assistants. Together they helped Zofis revive and command the Ancient Mamodo, directing them to fight against Zatch, Kiyo, and their friends. However, Alvin gradually realized that Zofis’ intentions were evil. In an effort to hinder Zofis’ plans, Alvin removed his false teeth, preventing himself from properly reading spells and limiting Byonko’s fighting ability. Eventually, both Byonko and Penny recognized the truth as well and turned against Zofis, joining Zatch and his allies in their struggle. Alvin then put his false teeth back in so Byonko could fight at his full strength.
During Byonko’s final moments in the battle, he asked Alvin if he had managed to become “cool.” Alvin, moved to tears, reassured him that he was “super cool.” After Byonko’s departure, Alvin returned to his quiet life in his cottage. Though he lived alone again, he kept the clover leaf he had plucked from Byonko’s head, symbolizing the deep bond they had formed. Alvin was later shown to be one of the bookkeepers unaware of the final battle against Clear Note.

Byonko's abilities are mainly slime based which matches up with his frog personality perfectly. It mostly has to do with stretching his limbs or shooting out bubbles made of slime. He is also shown to be extremely strong being able to knock down Demolt.
