Belgim EO and Dalia

Belgim E.O. (ベルギム・E・O, Berugimu Ī Ō), one of the Four Supreme Mamodo, and his present-day bookkeeper Dalia Anjé (ダリア・アンジェ, Daria Anje) are confronted by Kanchomé and Parco Folgore and Kido and Dr. Riddles in the ruins. Belgim E.O. sits on an oversized throne and rarely moves from it, although he is capable of standing on his own. He uses Ghost Magic.

Appearance[]

Belgim E.O. has gray skin, fiery yellow-orange eyes without pupils, and a skeletal facial structure that reinforces his eerie presence. He wears a black-and-orange striped headdress and kilt, both torn at the edges, as well as sharp orange shoes. His upper body is partly covered by purple chest armor, and two oversized bolts protrude from his shoulders, recalling Frankenstein’s monster. Belgim towers over most Mamodo, standing over two to three meters tall even while seated.

Belgim is almost always depicted seated upon a massive throne that mirrors his grim features. The throne is gray like his body and is shaped with a skeletal face reminiscent of Tutankhamun’s funerary mask. Its back is enormously tall, and thick nails are driven into its shoulders. Despite its heavy, stone-like design, the throne conceals unusual functions: in Chapter 134 of the manga, it emits jets of propulsion when Belgim fires Dioga Ryuusudon, implying it is a Mamodo-made tool equipped with advanced technology. The underside of the chair, shown when overturned, contains a jet-like nozzle.

In official fan material, Makoto Raiku revealed that the chair was already in front of Belgim E.O. at his birth, suggesting an odd bond of imprinting or fate. When asked about the meaning of “E.O.” in his name, Raiku commented jokingly that Belgim was simply “stupid,” and later clarified on his blog that names in Zatch Bell!! were chosen for sound rather than deeper meaning, with “E.O.” selected because it fit his rhythm better than “I.O.”

Dalia has black hair with dark purple highlights and lime green eyes. She wears a dark pink dress. In episode 89, she wears a white and dark blue sailor dress with a red scarf.

Personality[]

Belgim E.O. is very powerful, but easily appeased if he is entertained, although if he becomes bored, he gets angry and attacks.

Dalia Anjé does not appear to be controlled by Zofis, but seems genuinely insane, as her only dialog outside of reading spells is mad laughter (and one scream when she saw Kanchomé's Dikaporuku spell).

Biography[]

Background[]

Belgim E.O. participated in the previous battle 1,000 years ago to decide the Mamodo King. At some point during the battle, Belgim E.O. ran into Goren of the Stone and Maurice and was turned into a stone tablet by his spell, Dioga Gorugojio.

Part I[]

After being trapped in a stone table for 1,000 years, Belgim E.O. was returned to his body by Zofis when he used the Stone of Moonlight on him and the other ancient mamodo trapped in stone.

Belgim E.O. is a mamodo who fought in the battle at the Devolo Ruins under Zofis’s command. Known for his eccentric and unsettling behavior, he first appeared sitting in a spinning chair, forcing Folgore and Kanchome to dance for his amusement before erupting into combat. During the battle, Belgim displayed both sadistic cruelty and unorthodox tactics, such as physically assaulting Dr. Riddles with a chair in addition to casting powerful spells. Although initially overwhelming his opponents, he was gradually countered through Kid’s clever leadership and Kanchome’s illusionary abilities. In the climax, Belgim attempted to unleash Dioga Ryuusudon, but his book was burned by Kido’s final spell, Mikoruo Ma Zegaruga. Both he and Kido were sent back to the Mamodo World as a result.

Later, Belgim E.O. reappeared in the manga’s epilogue as a classmate of Zatch, revealing he was only around six or seven years old. Despite his menacing presence in battle, he was shown to be an innocent and lonely child, longing for his mother. In the “Gash Café” bonus story, this vulnerability is highlighted when he breaks down upon learning his family likely died during the thousand years of sealing. Patty later offered him comfort and possibly a home with her family in the Mamodo world.

Trivia[]

  • The "E.O." stands for Intolerant Overlord. In the Japanese version, it stands for "Isu" (椅子), meaning chair, which starts with the hard E sound, and Oshioki (お仕置き), meaning punishment, which starts with the hard O sound.
  • Neil Kaplan Belgim’s English voice actor has said. That Belgim E.O. Was the most craziest role he has ever done. After watching how crazy the Japanese was. Kaplan had to do so many takes to match the zaniness, while at the same time trying not to laugh and break character.
  • Belgim E. O.’s starting point in the human world from the previous battle was possibly Italy. Due to the nationality of Dahlia.
