| Overview |
Alm (アルム, Alumu) and Mamiko Takahashi (高橋 真美子, Takahashi Mamiko) are an ancient mamodo team.
Appearance[]
Alm is a small, humanoid mamodo with a striking star-shaped head that has four long, pointed spikes radiating outward. His face is white with an orange swirl of hair on his forehead, looking somewhat like a clown. His eyes are large and yellow without pupils. He wears a light purple bodysuit with a row of dark buttons down the front and large, red, glove-like arms that are disproportionate to his small body. His legs are slim, ending in dark blue footwear. He also has teeth that appear extremely sharp.
Mamiko is a tall, slim girl with short, orange hair that flips outward at the ends and a sharp, angular fringe framing her glasses. She wears a school uniform consisting of a white short-sleeved blouse with a bow tie, a gray skirt, and knee-high navy socks paired with light-colored shoes. When under Zofis' control, her eyes appears iris-less, but her real eyes are brown.
Personality[]
Alm’s rude and aggressive behavior was most evident during his battle with Zatch, even going so far as to attack the owner of his book. However, this hostility stemmed from the distortions in his personality caused by being sealed in stone for a thousand years. Because of this, rather than feeling anger toward him, Zatch and Kiyo pitied his suffering. After returning to the Mamodo World, Alm revealed valuable information to the others, and despite his gruff nature, he ultimately offered words of encouragement to Zatch. This made him the perfect character for Tia’s reflection in the story: “Maybe he was originally a good monster.”
Not much is known about Mamiko’s true personality due to her heart being controlled by Zofis for most of her appearances. After she was freed from the curse, however, it was revealed that she is a Folgore fan. She also expressed her gratitude to Zatch and the others in simple, straightforward words, suggesting that she has an honest and conscientious nature beneath the brainwashing.
Biography[]
Background[]
Alm participated in the previous battle 1,000 years ago to decide the Mamodo King. At some point during the battle, Alm ran into Goren of the Stone and Maurice and was turned into a stone tablet by his spell, Dioga Gorugojio. After being trapped in a stone tablet for 1,000 years, Alm was returned to his body by Zofis when he used the Stone of Moonlight on him and the other ancient mamodo trapped in stone. Mamiko is not Alm’s original partner and, under normal circumstances, would be unable to read the spellbook or activate its spells. However, through Zofis’ mental manipulation, the cognitive dissonance between the descendants and the spellbook was forcibly synchronized. This artificial alignment allows Mamiko to read and cast the spells as though she were Alm’s rightful partner.
Part I[]
In the anime, Alm first appears along with The Silent Rulers in the battle against Brago; however, he doesn't fight and instead spectates. He appears inside the Water reservatory along with Gelios. When Kiyo and company find them, he is destroying walls, using all the power and freedom Zofis has given him he says. He says that Zofis lets them be free and do whatever they want, although there are some restrictions and rules. Alm seems to be very thankful that Zofis freed him from the stone tablet he was in. Like Laila, he never wants to go back to that world of silence and imprisonment. He engages in combat with Zatch and Tia after chasing Kanchomé through the ruins. Although Zatch doesn't want to hurt Alm because he feels sorry for him so, he goes straight for Mamiko and Alm's book in order to burn it. While Alm's book is burning he tells Zatch that Zofis is in the tower and that Zatch will never make it through with his technique, trying to burn the book without hurting the mamodo or the human. When Alm and Gelios' books are completely burned, he only has a few seconds before he returns to the mamodo world, and reminds Zatch to be strong.
Alm is seen supporting Zatch in his final attack against Clear Note and is presumed to have his body restored and living peacefully along with the other Mamodos after Zatch has become king.
